Almost There.

Well, we are almost there. Progress is coming along. The walls are just about closed in, except for the bathroom wall, which hasn't been built yet due to the shower not being in yet.

Shower should be getting purchased tomorrow and put in, then the rough plumbing will be put in.

In the mean time, it is back to shopping for us.

The agenda includes:

ONLINE:

- Find a hot water heater. I am looking at this one.

- Buy a water storage tank and 12v water pump.

- Pick out and purchase a power inverter.

LOCAL:

- Kitchen Sink
- Kitchen Counter
- Kitchen Cabinets
- Bathroom Sink
- Bathroom light fixtures (2x over mirror)
- Smallish ceiling fan. (Call Bub for dimensional limitations?)
- Loft light fixture. (Two-lamp bi-directional unit)

---

Tomorrow we will go up with whatever we can get purchased. We'll drop off the stuff to be installed, and probably take some nice new pictures as well. (I'll man the camera this time...)

  1. Howdy folks,

It's good to hear that you're dream house is taking shape! Congradulations.

A fair warning about that hot water heater. There is no way on earth that you can run that off of an off grid power system. It would drain your batteries in seconds and it would take days to charge them back up again, and that is only if you have a fairly extensive system.

I would highly recomend a propane on demand unit. Something like this (http://www.heatershop.com/coleman_hot_water_heater_2300_700.html) can be a nice solution if you don't want to invest in the more expensive contentional RV unit.

The best inverter is the one that doesn't exist. Take a good look at your needs and see if going completely 12V is an option for you. Even if not, take full advantage of 12V as much as possible and the inverter is not 100% effecient.

For such a small space, a conventional ceiling fan can be very much over kill. Look at this place (http://www.backwoodssolar.com/) for both some true ceiling fans and some freestanding 12V alternatives.

Every wise penny spent here will save a dollar when you start shopping for off grid power sources.
